Davis' No-Hitter Caps Softball Sweep at Dallas

IRVING, Texas -- Laynie Davis tossed a no-hitter in game two and the LeTourneau softball team took both games of Saturday's SCAC doubleheader at Dallas.

LeTourneau took game one, 6-4, before Davis' no-hitter led the YellowJackets to an 8-0 win in the second game. The two wins gave LeTourneau a SCAC series sweep for the first time this season.

Davis' no-hitter is the fifth in program history, and the first since 2023. She also became the third pitcher to throw a solo no-hitter.

GAME ONE: LeTourneau 6, Dallas 4

LeTourneau opened up a 4-0 lead and then held off Dallas for a 6-4 victory in Saturday's first game.

Maddie Flanery went 3-for-4 with three runs and three steals, while Jenna Carter homered and was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Mandy Hoback also had two hits and an RBI in the win.

A Dallas error in the top of the first enabled Flanery to score the first run and two more Dallas errors led to another run to make it 2-0. Hoback produced an RBI double to cap a three-run first inning for the YellowJackets.Rylie Shipp made it 4-0 in the second with an infield single and Flanery scored after a throwing error by Dallas.

Dallas answered with three runs in the third to trim the margin to 4-3. Carter responded in the top of the fourth with a two-run homer to left field -- her third of the year -- to make it 6-3.

Brooke Bubert (6-6) went the distance in the circle allowing three earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts to get the win.

Madison Carda (2-4) got the loss for Dallas. Abby Lasley had three hits to lead the host Crusaders.

GAME TWO: LeTourneau 8, Dallas 0

Davis tossed a five-inning no-hitter and allowed just one runner to reach while the offense took care of the rest in an 8-0 run-rule victory for LeTourneau.

Davis (4-4) was outstanding in the circle. the freshman walked just one and collected one strikeout as she finished the no-hitter throwing just 49 pitches. Defense was key as well as Laila LaCapra made a tough catch in center field and the infield of Kylee Davis, Flanery, Shipp, and Hoback were flawless.

Flanery opened the game with an inside-the-park home run to right field. Flanery hit the ball over the right fielder's head and raced towards third, as the relay throw was being made it got away as Flanery was already making her turn to score. It was her second career home run -- and the first inside-the-park homer.

Carter made it 3-0 in the third with a two-run double and Laynie Davis helped her cause with an RBI single to make it 4-0. The four-run inning was capped by LaCapra's RBI ground out to make it 5-0.

In the fourth, a Dallas error allowed another run to score and then LeTourneau tacked on two in the fifth for the final margin.

Laynie Davis went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while tossing the no-hitter. LeTourneau had eight hits in the win.

Dallas' Kristiana Guerra (3-10) picked up the loss in the circle.
