CONWAY, Ark. -- The LeTourneau softball team lost both games of its conference doubleheader to the Hendrix Warriors via walk-off at Warrior Field.
LeTourneau (14-22, 9-17 SCAC) rallied late in both contests, but Hendrix (13-21, 9-17 SCAC) would be victorious in both pitchers' duels.
Taylor Gouge saw the ball well on Friday, going 5-for-7 at the plate, with a run and an RBI, while
Rylie Shipp followed, hitting 4-for-8, scoring once and driving in a run.
GAME ONE: Hendrix 4, LeTourneau 3
LeTourneau scored a run in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, but Kaycee Schoen scored on a fielder's choice to walk off the series opener.
Shipp went 3-for-4 with a double and plated
Maddie Flanery to tie the game in the seventh with LeTourneau down to its final out.
Flanery, Gouge, and
Laila LaCapra had two hits apiece in the loss.
After a quiet start to the opener, Hendrix struck first in the fourth in, leading 1-0 after an Emerson Naismith RBI-single to left.
The YellowJackets answered the next half inning, as
Laynie Davis slapped a single down the left field line to score Gouge and tie the game 1-1.
However, the Warriors answered with two runs in the home half of the fifth to lead 3-1.
Raina Doggett ripped a first-pitch single to left center to cut the lead to one in the sixth, and Shipp's clutch RBI tied the game in the seventh.
Kaycee Schoen led the bottom of the seventh off with a double and came around to score the winning run just three batters later.
Davis (4-5) was pegged with the loss, allowing all four of Hendrix's runs in the 6.1 innings, while striking out two and walking no one.
Emma Salis (6-13) earned the complete-game win for the Warriors.
GAME TWO: Hendrix 3, LeTourneau 2
The Warriors once again won via walk-off heroics, this time as Tori Maldonado scored Rylee Harris from second on a single up the middle in extras.
Schoen homered to right-center in the first to put Hendrix on the board first again.
Shipp scored Flanery on a single to center field to even the contest 1-1 in the top of the third, but an RBI-triple in the home half gave Hendrix a 2-1 lead.
Things were quiet until the sixth, when Gouge scored
Tessa Reeves on an opposite-field single to tie the game once more.
However, Maldonado produced the game-winning RBI once again, walking the game off in the eighth inning, and clinching the series.
Brooke Bubert (6-7) received the loss, allowing all three runs -- two earned -- in her 7.2-inning complete game.
Gianna Robinson (5-2) earned the win, holding the YellowJackets to two runs in her eight innings in the circle.
