COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The LeTourneau men's tennis team could not hold on to a 3-0 match lead in a 4-3 loss to St. Thomas late Friday night at Lifetime Fitness in Colorado Springs.
LeTourneau (6-7, 3-4 SCAC) opened with strong play in doubles as the YellowJackets took all three flights for a 1-0 match lead.
Andrew Reiman and
Fernando Vazquez defeated St. Thomas' Sawyer White and Wilson Salazar by a 6-4 final at the top flight, while
Timothy Black and
Zach Farris had little trouble with Ricardo Moolchan and Pooya Tork in a 6-1 win at No. 2.
Hayden Harry and
Diego Maldonado finished the sweep with a 7-5 win at No. 3.
Farris and Reiman then racked up singles wins at the top two flights. Farris knocked off Raja Pandya 6-3, 6-3 at the top spot. Reiman was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over White at No. 2.
St. Thomas (4-5, 4-3 SCAC) then took all four of the final singles spots to claim the win. Moolchan outlasted Vazquez at the No. 3 spot in three sets 6-7(3), 6-3, 10-2 and then Salazar defeated Black 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4. Gavin Simpson defeated Harry 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 to even the match.
The match was decided at the No. 5 spot in a battle between Maldonado and Tork. Tork took the first set 6-4, but Maldonado responded with a 6-4 win in the second. In the third set super tiebreak, the players went back-and-forth before Tork pulled away for a 10-8 win to seal the match for St. Thomas.
