LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's tennis team picked up a crucial victory on Thursday afternoon with a 6-1 win over McMurry in SCAC play at the Davis Tennis Complex.
The win moves LeTourneau (7-8, 4-5 SCAC) into seventh in the league standings. With the top six teams qualifying for the SCAC Tournament, the YellowJackets must defeat Schreiner on Friday and have Texas Lutheran lose one of its two remaining matches. LeTourneau holds the tiebreaker over Texas Lutheran after defeating the Bulldogs earlier this year.
LeTourneau took all three doubles spots to grab a 1-0 match lead over McMurry (4-15, 3-6 SCAC).
All three doubles flights finished with 6-1 scores in favor of the YellowJackets.
Andrew Reiman and
Fernando Vazquez took down McMurry's Mason Bagwell and Isaias Lomeli at the top flight,
Timothy Black and
Zach Farris won over Evan Pezirtzoglou and Isaac Gutierrez at No. 2, and
Hayden Harry and
Diego Maldonado defeated Angel Ramirez and Lance Turner at No. 3.
Black and Farris moved to 12-3 on the year and 8-1 in league play with their win. Reiman and Vazquez collected their 10th win together.
In singles, LeTourneau earned five more wins.
Farris defeated Bagwell at the top flight by a 6-1, 6-1 final. At No. 2, Reiman was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Lomeli. Vazquez then took down Pezirtzoglou at No. 3 6-3, 6-4.
Maldonado and Harry finished off the win with their victories at No. 5 and 6, respectively. Maldonado blanked Turner 6-0, 6-0, and Harry defeated Hunter Crim 6-2, 6-0.
