LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's tennis team rolled past Schreiner, 6-1, on Senior Day and clinched a spot in the SCAC Tournament in the process on Friday afternoon at the Davis Tennis Complex.
LeTourneau (8-8, 5-5 SCAC) clinched a spot in the postseason with the win and a loss by Texas Lutheran to Ozarks earlier in the day. The YellowJackets will find out their first round opponent and match time when the SCAC regular season concludes this weekend.
Before the match, LeTourneau honored its seniors
Zach Farris and
Grayson Cavel for their contributions and dedication to the program. Farris is near the top-10 in program history in both career singles and doubles wins in dual matches while being a multi-all-conference selection during his career.
The YellowJackets took all three doubles matches to gain a 1-0 match lead.
Andrew Reiman and
Fernando Vazquez downed Schreiner's Ernesto Gonzalez-Molina and Jason Soto by a 6-3 final at the top flight, while
Timothy Black and
Zach Farris were 6-2 winners at No. 2 over Andrew Reyes and Ari Nadler-Torres at No. 2.
Hayden Harry and
Diego Maldonado coasted past Edgardo Flores and Mason Thomas, 6-3, at the No. 3 flight.
In singles, LeTourneau did plenty to seal the victory.
Farris defeated Reyes at the top flight by a 6-0, 6-0 final. Reiman earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Noah Salas at the No. 2 flight. Vazquez then earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Soto at No. 3.
LeTourneau also took the final two flights. Maldonado bested Thomas, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5. Harry went three sets with Flores at No. 6 before winning 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.
