LONGVIEW, Texas -- On a day to honor the senior class, the LeTourneau women's tennis team picked up a win over Schreiner, 5-2, on Friday afternoon in SCAC action at the Davis Tennis Complex.
LeTourneau (9-7, 6-4 SCAC) has clinched a spot in the SCAC Tournament, which is set to begin next week in Kerrville. The YellowJackets will await their seeding and first round opponent following the conclusion of the SCAC regular season this weekend.
Before the match, LeTourneau honored its lone senior --
Kylie Weeks. The Houston-native has played both basketball and tennis at LeTourneau and ranks in the top-10 all-time in career singles wins.
Weeks notched two wins on the day to help LeTourneau to the win. She and
Chloe Tesser continued to hold down the top flight in doubles with a 6-4 win over Schreiner's Mackenzie Griffin and Katherine Bergeron.
Maddie Nichol and
Anaiah Smith were 6-4 winners over Mikinley Jamison and Kinverly Ibarra at No. 2 as LeTourneau went ahead 1-0 in the match.
Weeks then held off Jamison at the No. 1 spot in singles with a 6-1, 7-5 win. Nichol also notched her second win of the day with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Griffin at the No. 2 flight. Tesser was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Ibarra at No. 3.
Smith rounded out the LeTourneau winners with her 6-0, 6-4 win over Bergeron at the No. 4 spot.
LeTourneau will make its 15th appearance in a conference tournament next week at the SCAC Championships in Kerrville.
