Softball Earns Comeback Win in Final Game of Hendrix Series

CONWAY, Ark. -- Four runs over the final two innings propelled the LeTourneau softball team to a 7-4 comeback win over Hendrix in the SCAC series finale on a chilly Saturday afternoon.

LeTourneau (15-22, 10-17 SCAC) kept its SCAC postseason chances alive with the win. Hendrix (13-22, 9-18 SCAC) clinched the series win with a doubleheader sweep on Friday.

Jenna Carter went 4-for-4, Rylie Shipp went 3-for-4, and Laynie Davis and Kylee Davis each had two hits as the YellowJackets racked up 13 in the victory. Laynie Davis, Shipp, Carter, Raina Doggett, and Taylor Gouge all collected doubles as LeTourneau had five.

Carter's four-hit game was her third of the year and her 10th multi-hit game.

Despite all the hitting, LeTourneau had to rally in the late innings. Down 4-3 entering the sixth inning, LeTourneau scored twice to take a one-run lead. Doggett led off the inning with a walk and her pinch-runner, Natalie Noriega, scored the tying run on a Kylee Davis two-out single. Two batters later, Laynie Davis ripped a double to right-center field that plated Kylee Davis for the go-ahead run.

In the seventh, LeTourneau added some insurance. Shipp led off with a double and a Laila LaCapra sacrifice fly scored Shipp to make it 6-4. Doggett then followed with an RBI double to tack on one more and make it 7-4.

Laynie Davis (5-5) worked around a one-out walk in the seventh to close the door on Hendrix. Davis tossed a complete-game allowing just one earned run with four strikeouts. It was Davis' seventh complete-game of the season.

Emma Salis (6-14) got the loss for Hendrix as she was tagged for seven runs on 13 hits in 6.1 innings. Bell Jaramillo, Tori Maldonado, and Peyton Frady all had two hits for Hendrix.
