WESTWORTH VILLAGE, Texas -- The LeTourneau women's golf team extended its lead after day two of the SCAC Championships, hosted at the par-72 Hawks Creek Golf Club.
LeTourneau topped its historic round one with a 22-over, 310 on Monday, extending the lead over St. Thomas -- who carded a 27-over 315 in round two -- to 19 strokes. LeTourneau is 45-over heading into day three, with the Celts sitting 64-over.
Kinley Pessel etched her name in the record books in round two, carding an even-par, 72. This ties the record for the best single-round score in SCAC Championship history. The junior carded even-par, 33's on both the front and back nines, cupping four birdies along the way.
Pessel -- sitting 5-over on the tournament -- now leads the field, holding a two-shot lead over St. Thomas' Leah Torres.
Elena Jurado followed her career-best round one with another elite round on Monday. Jurado carded three birdies en route to her 6-over, 78, and sits in third place with an 11-over after two rounds.
Jurado leads the field in par-4 scoring, shooting an even-par on such holes after day two.
Emerson Swanner is tied for fifth following her second 6-over, 78 of the tournament. The sophomore tallied a pair of birdies and is 12-over for the tournament.
Hannah Newell and
Calli Hoesterey round out LeTourneau. Newell -- sitting in 12th place -- carded a 10-over, 82 that featured a birdie on hole 15, while Hoesterey tallied a 13-over, 85, and is 15th in the individual standings.
LeTourneau leads the field in par-4 scoring with an average of 4.23 shots on such holes, and the Jackets' 21 birdies clear the rest of the conference.
