WESTWORTH VILLAGE, Texas -- Following the SCAC Golf Championships on Tuesday, LeTourneau women's golf senior
Hannah Newell was named the recipient of the Elite 19 award for the sport.
Newell becomes the second student-athlete in LeTourneau history to earn the honor from the SCAC, joining men's cross country's David Dugan.
The SCAC Elite 19 is awarded annually to the student-athlete who has at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA, at least 60 credit hours at his or her current institution and earns All-SCAC honors for that particular season.
Newell, a senior from Houston, Texas, currently holds a 4.00 GPA in chemistry and earned second team All-SCAC honors after firing a three-day total of 200 to finish to tie for ninth in the 43-player field.
A four-year player that has been integral to the rise of YellowJacket women's golf, Newell climbed three spots in the final round on Tuesday. She shot a 1-over, 37 with two birdies on Tuesday and was 20-over, 200 (81-82-37) for the tournament with five birdies.
Newell became just the second player in program history to earn four career All-Conference honors, joining Leslie Lee.
During her career, Newell was a four-time All-Conference selection and has earned three WGCA All-American Scholar honors. She's also collected three academic all-conference honors and two CSC Academic All-District selections.
