KERRVILLE, Texas -- LeTourneau baseball concluded its regular season with a 5-4 extra-inning win over the Schreiner Mountaineers on Saturday at Bob Henry Field.
After a late comeback from Schreiner (15-25, 13-17 SCAC), it was
Jack Kale's bases-loaded two-run single that pushed the YellowJackets to the series sweep.
With the victory, LeTourneau (23-17, 20-10 SCAC) ends the regular season on a nine-game winning streak, the longest in the program's NCAA era.
Seth Hudson and
Cody Brady were the driving forces behind the offense, collecting two hits apiece in the win. Zack Baker reached twice and scored twice as well.
The YellowJackets ran rampant on the basepaths. The team's seven stolen bases tie for second-most in a game in program history.
LeTourneau supplied two runs in the opening half to take an early lead.
After Baker got plunked in the leadoff spot, Brady singled him home two batters later. Brady himself scored later that inning when
Chris Savage's grounder was sailed into the stands.
Colt McDowell was flawless in his no-decision start, throwing three scoreless innings and only allowing one hit.
McDowell was followed by scoreless innings from each of
Weston Riggins,
Ben Mayorga,
Luke Dickey, and
Winn Harriss.
LeTourneau led 3-0 after Baker worked a four-pitch leadoff walk to begin the fifth inning, and Hudson doubled him home two pitches later.
The Mountaineers didn't find the scoreboard until the eighth inning when Nolan Harris plated one on a fielder's choice following three straight singles.
A single and a double in the next two at-bats were enough to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the ninth, where both teams went three-up three-down and the finale headed to extras.
Tyler Hedin singled off Logan Sifuentes (0-1) and stole second to begin the 10th, followed by a Brady walk and a Savage hit-by-pitch to load the bases with nobody out.
Finally, in a full count, Kale lined a single to left field to score the go-ahead runs and lead 5-3.
Schreiner threatened in the home-half, scoring one off an error, but
Camden Miller (4-2) shut the door, picking up his fourth win of the season.
