CLEBURNE, Texas --
Colt McDowell posted a seven-inning complete-game,
Jack Kale went 5-for-5 with a game-ending home run and the No. 2 seed LeTourneau baseball team defeated No. 1 seed Texas Lutheran, 12-2, in a SCAC Tournament elimination game on Sunday afternoon at La Moderna Field.
LeTourneau (25-18) has a quick turnaround with another elimination game against No. 4 seed McMurry on Sunday at 7 p.m.
McDowell (2-2) shoved in his start as he went all seven innings and allowed just two runs on nine hits with one strikeout. It was McDowell's longest outing of the year and the right-hander threw 78 pitches, including 56 for strikes.
Kale became the sixth player in SCAC Tournament history to record a five-hit game. His solo home run in the seventh ended the game to give LeTourneau the run-rule victory. The homer was his sixth of the year. Kale finished with two RBIs and four runs scored.
Jake Morris put the YellowJackets up in the second inning with an RBI single that plated Kale. Later in the inning, a double steal from Morris and
Jonah McDaniel resulted in a throwing error that enabled McDaniel to score and make it 2-0.
After Texas Lutheran (28-14) tied the score at 2-2 in the third, LeTourneau put up seven runs on five hits in the fifth. Kale had an RBI double,
Blake Vice added a two-run single to make it 5-2.
Cody Brady capped the inning with his two-run single as LeTourneau grabbed a 9-2 lead.
In the sixth, Morris tacked on another two-run single to extend the lead to 11-2.
Morris went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Brady went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and LeTourneau had 12 hits in the win.
Jack Grames (8-3) notched the loss for Texas Lutheran.Â
