Hannah Newell earned just about every major athletic and academic award a golfer can attain during a collegiate career.
She was a four-time all-conference selection, four-time academic all-conference honoree, an NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, and a CSC Academic All-American. She accomplished it all with a perfect 4.0 GPA and graduated with a degree in chemistry.
“If you were looking for the ideal representation of a LeTourneau female student-athlete, Hannah Newell would be the perfect example,” said head coach J. Paul Leslie III. “She embodies the qualities that define the LeTourneau experience—highly competitive, committed to academic excellence, and grounded in her Christian faith.”
A recent graduate from Houston, Texas, Newell is one of the most decorated four-year players in program history, both on and off the course. She became the first LeTourneau student-athlete to earn the prestigious NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete Award, as she collected the honor after helping the YellowJackets reach the NCAA Division III Championships for the first time in 2026.
Newell became just the second player in program history to earn all-conference honors in all four seasons. She earned All-SCAC second team in 2026 after posting a scoring average of 80.93 with five top-10s and two top-five finishes. She tied for ninth at the SCAC Championships to help LeTourneau to the program's first conference title and a berth into the NCAA Division III Championships.
She ended her career second in program history in scoring average (81.05), first in birdies (84), and second in rounds played (76.5).
Newell graduated in May with a degree in chemistry and a 4.0 GPA. She was the SCAC Elite 19 Award recipient for the sport this season. Newell was a three-time CSC Academic All-District selection, four-time conference all-academic, and three-time WGCA All-American Scholar.
“Hannah will forever be remembered as one of the greatest golfers in LETU history,” added Leslie. “Throughout her career, she has been a leader on and off the course, earning conference and national recognition while setting a standard of excellence for those who follow. More importantly, she is an outstanding individual whose character, work ethic, and impact on others have left a lasting mark on our program.”
