LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau women's golfers
Elena Jurado,
Hannah Newell, and
Emerson Swanner were all named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® team, announced the organization on Tuesday.
CSC, formerly known as CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in their sport and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes at-large honorees (which includes golf student-athletes) in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Jurado, a junior from Childress, Texas, earned All-SCAC second team honors and collects her first career CSC Academic All-District nod. The junior had a breakout season as she averaged a career-best 81.44 in 12.5 rounds with two top-10 finishes. One of those top finishes came at the SCAC Championships where she palced sixth to earn All-SCAC second team and help LeTourneau claim its first conference title.
Majoring in aviation management, Jurado is a two-time WGCA All-American Scholar and will be a three-time conference all-academic honoree.
Newell, a senior from Houston, Texas, earns her third career CSC Academic All-District nod. Newell became the first student-athlete in LeTourneau athletics history to garner the NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete Award as she claimed the honor this year after helping the YellowJackets to the NCAA Division III Championships. A four-time all-conference honoree, including earning All-SCAC second team this season, she ranks second in program history in career scoring average at 81.05 and has two of the top four single-season scoring average records. This season, Newell shot an 80.93 with five top-10s in 21.5 rounds.
Newell finished her bachelor's degree in chemistry with a 4.0 GPA. She was the SCAC Elite 19 Award winner this year and is a three-time WGCA All-American Scholar, and will be a four-time conference all-academic selection.
Swanner, a sophomore from Spring, Texas, earns her first CSC Academic All-District honor. The sophomore collected All-SCAC first team honors after placing in a tie for second at the SCAC Championships. Swanner posted a career-best 80.65 scoring average in 21.5 rounds with four top-10 finishes on the year as she helped LeTourneau claim the SCAC title.
Majoring in kinesiology, Swanner will be a two-time conference all-academic selection and garnered WGCA All-American Scholar accolades last season.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-America® program students must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA, compete in at least 70 percent of a team's tournaments or compete in the conference tournament, and be at least a sophomore academically.
