JACKSON, Miss. -- LeTourneau women's soccer held on to its 1-0 lead after a near one-hour lightning delay to secure a Thursday night victory.

The YellowJackets used a 54th-minute tap-in from Chanel Kemball-Cook to defeat the Belhaven Blazers in a rainy defensive battle. It was just the third loss in the Blazers' last 25 matches at Belhaven Bowl Stadium. 

LeTourneau (2-1) dominated the middle 30 minutes of the match, especially putting the pressure on in the final moments of the first half. The Jackets outshot Belhaven (1-1-1) 9-0 in the first half, and 14-4 in the match. 

After apply plenty of pressure, LeTourneau finally broke through just nine minutes into the second half.

Sierra Kemball-Cook sent a perfectly placed through ball 40 yards upfield to Sarah Wyatt, who gave it one touch before chipping it inside for an easy tap-in by Chanel Kemball-Cook.

Chanel Kemball-Cook netted her second goal of the early season, while Wyatt added her third assist, and Sierra Kemball-Cook her second.

With 20 minutes remaining, a lightning delay caused a nearly hour-long stoppage. 

Despite the pause, LeTourneau staved off the comeback attempt, with elite play from the defensive line.

Avery Gortney, Presley McIrvin, and Jaye Dugan logged all 90 minutes, with Saige West right behind with 87 minutes. The defenders staved off the Blazers, not allowing a single shot on goal.

Belhaven's keeper, Addi Roberts, tallied eight saves in the contest.
