LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau women's soccer couldn't be denied despite a defensive battle on Friday night, taking down the Schreiner Mountaineers, 1-0.
After both teams just missed a pair of incredible chances in each half, it was reigning SCAC Offensive Player of the Week
Chanel Kemball-Cook who broke the nil-nil tie in the 82nd minute at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
Despite dropping the season opener, LeTourneau (5-1) ties the program record win streak with its fifth straight victory tonight.
The YellowJackets took advantage of a poor clearance attempt by Schreiner (0-2-2) to find the back of the net.
Kennedy Gortney sent a pass between the legs of a leaping
Sarah Wyatt, finding Kemball-Cook running into the box for a one-on-one. Kemball-Cook shot across the box to the left of Schreiner's Montserrat Mendez, all with a defender dragging her to the ground.Â
The game-winner was Kemball-Cook's seventh score of the season, extending her SCAC lead in the category.
Just two minutes after LeTourneau's goal, Schreiner's Cari Schott broke through the backline and nearly tied the match once more, firing a shot off the crossbar.Â
Both teams saw incredible play from their keepers, each making miraculous saves throughout the match. Mendez tallied six saves, while LeTourneau's
Kinsey Fulks denied all four shots on frame.
Kemball-Cook and Wyatt each put three shots on frame, while
Natalie Alvarado also had an attempt denied by a diving Mendez.
