BELTON, Texas – The LeTourneau volleyball team fell in three competitive sets against UMHB to open the season on Friday night at the UMHB Invitational.
LeTourneau (0-1) was led offensively by Logan Lear, Kylee Marksberry, and freshman Elizabeth Corbitt. Lear and Corbitt both recorded nine kills to lead the way for the Jackets, while Marksberry chipped in eight.
Hailee Perry dished out a career-high 21 assists and added 10 digs for her evening. Maddy Hirneise led the defense as she garnered 18 digs, while Rebekah Dragoo added 12.
The YellowJackets got off to a good start to the game as they controlled much of the first set, taking a late 21-18 lead. After UMHB tied the set at 23-23, LeTourneau had three chances at set points but were unable to convert, ultimately dropping the first set 32-30.
UMHB carried the momentum from the end of the first set into the second, as it jumped out to a 15-8 lead. The lead would stay between five and eight points the rest of the way, as UMHB earned a 25-19 second-set victory.
The third set was back-and-forth, as LeTourneau saw itself with an 11-10 lead midway through. However, UMHB answered with a 5-0 run to put itself in prime position to win the match. The YellowJackets battled back to cut the lead to one late in the set but could not complete the comeback as UMHB closed out a 25-22 third-set win.
Ava Ribakovs led the UMHB charge, as the lefty recorded an impressive 17 kills and 10 digs.
