Ransom Okpala starts his first year as an assistant men's basketball coach at LeTourneau University.

Okpala played four years for the Roos from 2010-2014, serving as a captain for three seasons. He was named Second Team All-SCAC after his senior season and Third Team All-SCAC in 2012 and 2013 as well as being named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2013. Ransom was the 18th player in Austin College history to score 1,000 points during a January game against TLU in 2014.
 
“I am excited to add Ransom to our men’s basketball staff,” said head coach Dan Miller. “Ransom was an outstanding player at Austin College and I believe will make a smooth transition to college coaching. He has a great passion for the game and energy to help players improve on and off the court. Ransom understands the DIII landscape and will be a great asset in recruiting the Houston area.”
 
Okpala earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics in 2014. After graduation Ransom took a job at Enchanted Rock Energy as a business analyst. He now works with the Houston Dynamo as an inside sales manager.
 
Along with his work in the business field Okpala has spent the past year as a basketball specific trainer at Lifetime Fitness. Ransom had also been working as a personal basketball and strength trainer at In The Zone training facility in his hometown of Katy, Texas throughout his college career.

Prior to his college career Ransom was an all-district player for Katy High School in Katy, Texas. He was named first team all-district in 2008, 2009, and 2010 as well as being the KISD District MVP. Okpala earned All-Region second team honors in 2009 and 2010 and played in the HABC All-Star Game in both his junior and senior seasons.
 
Ransom is the son of Raphael and Tonet Abili.
