Mallory Matthews

Mallory Matthews was named the 18th head coach in LeTourneau Volleyball history on Friday, June 7, 2019.

In 2020-21, Matthews guided the YellowJackets to a 16-6 overall, 11-5 American Southwest Conference record. The Jackets finished second in the ASC East Division, and qualified for the league postseason tournament. LeTourneau went 11-2 at home. Matthews directed the staff that was chosen as ASC East co-Coaching Staff of the Year. She coached seven players who earned all-conference honors. Kianna Crow was named the ASC East Most Valuable Player, while Courtney Edge was selected as the ASC East Newcomer of the Year. Allison Smith was chosen as the ASC East co-Freshman of the Year. It was LeTourneau's second straight winning season. 

In her first season with the YellowJackets, Matthews earned ASC East co-Coaching Staff of the Year honors after guiding LeTourneau to an 18-14 record and ASC semifinals appearance. The Jackets finished second in the East with an 8-6 mark. Kianna Crow was named the ASC East co-Most Valuable Player after breaking the season record for kills. Setter Natalie Davenport broke the school record for assists, while ASC East Libero of the Year Cam Taylor broke the record for digs. 

Matthews joined the LeTourneau Athletics family after spending two seasons at the University of Texas-Tyler, where she was an assistant under head coach Lyndsay Mashe. Matthews also coached the East Texas Juniors Volleyball Club for four seasons, and worked camps in Mansfield, Spring Hill, Hallsville and Beckville.

The Mansfield, Texas native has deep ties to the American Southwest Conference, having spent all four years of her playing career at East Texas Baptist University, where she was named 2013 ASC East Division Freshman of the Year, 2015 ASC East Division Most Valuable Player, earned three ASC All-Tournament team selections, and was a 2015 AVCA All-American. Matthews finished her career as a Tiger with 1,448 kills and 1,222 digs, and ranked in the top 10 in kills, aces, digs and blocks at ETBU. 

A December 2016 graduate of East Texas Baptist, Matthews holds a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, and also earned her master's degree in kinesiology from Texas-Tyler.
