LONGVIEW, Texas – LeTourneau men's soccer shut Texas-Tyler out in the second half, but the YellowJackets couldn't overcome a halftime deficit and dropped a 2-0 decision to the Patriots Friday night at LETU Soccer Field.

"As a team, I thought we showed a lot of heart," LeTourneau men's soccer head coach Matthew Haesecke said. "We gave up two goals in the first half that probably shouldn't have happened. In my opinion, they were mistakes. But in the second half, we showed a lot of heart. We kept them out of our goal in the second half. We dug deep as a team defensively and played a lot better."

Anthony Martinez played 90 minutes in net for LeTourneau, making two saves while allowing just two goals. Several YellowJackets stepped up on the defensive end, including a couple of blocks by defenders when UT Tyler had gotten past Martinez.

"I thought Blake Pickett, a freshman, worked really hard for us defensively as well as offensively, Haesecke said. "Carlos Guevara and Xavier Scarlett were huge, and Anthony made some great saves, especially in the second half."

Drew Pilola and Enoch Shipman scored the two goals for UT Tyler, off of corner kicks by Elijah Shipman and Daniel Pineda, respectively.

LeTourneau men's soccer returns to LETU Soccer Field Sept. 28 for Spirit Day against Concordia Texas. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. The YellowJackets will host Mary Hardin-Baylor Sept. 29 at 6 p.m.
