LeTourneau Men's Soccer Drops Season Finale to Texas-Tyler

Box Score The LeTourneau University men's soccer saw its 2013 season end with a 4-1 loss at the hands of host University of Texas-Tyler on Saturday afternoon. Three second half goals within a six-minute span propelled the host Patriots to the win.

The YellowJackets (5-13-1, 3-7 ASC) first two shots were blocked by the Patriots' defense and in the 16th minute, senior Hunter Hembrough found the back of the net to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

The Patriots (10-2-4, 6-2-1 ASC) sought to equalize but it was a collapsing LeTourneau defense that kept off the scoreboard as they blocked three shots and two more sailed high for UT-Tyler. Eventually, in the 37th minute, Alonso Rivera did tie the contest when he scored.

LeTourneau had a chance to regain the lead in the 40th minute; however, a shot by Martin Pflaum hit the post. The two teams headed into the intermission tied at 1.

In the second half, the game remained tied until Texas Tyler scored in the 72nd minute on a Douglas Leighton to put the home team up by a 2-1 margin.

The Patriots' David Lopez-Molinar added two more goals in the next five minutes to stretch the lead to 4-1. The YellowJackets managed to get off three more shots but reserve UTT goalkeeper Sergio Gardea kept LETU off the scoreboard for the win.
