LeTourneau Loses to Rhodes College, 3-1

Box Score The LeTourneau University men's soccer team lost to host Rhodes College on Saturday afternoon, 3-1 in Memphis in its first game of the Rhodes Classic.

The YellowJackets (1-5-1) outshot the Lynx by a 17 to 12 margin but Rhodes goalkeeper Riley Sheen and his defensive counterparts withstood the LETU attack. Sheen finished the contest with five saves. The LETU offense was led by Mario Lopez, who had four shots; plus Edwin Raudales and Patrick Tchekane each added three to put pressure on the Rhodes defense.

The two teams played a scoreless first 45 minutes until Rhodes (3-4) went ahead just under three minutes into the second half when Eric Ly scored in the 48th minute. Ly was also involved in the Lynx second goal less than five minutes later when he found Gabe Laurence, who scored to put the home up team by a 2-0 margin.

Trailing 2-0, LETU failed to concede as Raudales and Adam Schultz had shots sail wide in the 54th and 58th minute, respectively. Then, the YellowJackets' Hunter Swift and Lopez each had shots blocked by Sheen in the 62nd and 68th minute, respectively. A rebound attempt of the Lopez shot by Josh Bishop was collected in by Sheen to keep LETU off the scoreboard.

The Lynx added its third goal of the half when they converted on a corner kick in the 71st minute for a 3-0 advantage. The
YellowJackets averted the shutout when Patrick Tchekane scored on a breakaway in the 84th minute for the final margin.

LETU will look to leave Memphis with a win under its belt as they take on Millsaps on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Majors are coming off a 3-2 win over previously unbeaten Ozarks on Saturday afternoon in the other contest at the Rhodes Classic.
