The hot shooting of Rhodes was too much for the LeTourneau University men's basketball team as they dropped an 83-53 to decision to the Lynx on Saturday afternoon.
Rhodes (3-1) shot 57.9% (33-for-57) from the field and held the YellowJackets to 39.1% (18-for-46) in the win. The sharpshooting by the Lynx is the highest by a LETU opponent since Texas-Dallas hit 58.8% on January 9, 2014. The Lynx were just as impressive from beyond the 3-point line with a 55.6% (10-for-18) clip.
Ryan Van Hoeck had a game-high 20 points to lead Rhodes and Drew Miller and Brennan Sullivan each had 16 for the Lynx. Miller and Sullivan combined to go 7-for-12 from beyond the 3-point line.
LeTourneau (1-2) was led by sophomore
Shaquille Reed, who had 11 points in the loss. Junior
Roozario Wiggins added nine points and a team-high five rebounds off the bench. The LETU bench outscored Hendrix by a 25-17 margin in the loss.
Rhodes started the game on a 19-2 run but the YellowJackets would draw as close as 11 in the loss.
The YellowJackets will be idle until Tuesday, Dec. 2 when they begin ASC play as they will travel to face local rival East Texas Baptist at 7:30 p.m. in Marshall.Â
