A 9-0 spurt late in the first half put host No. 21 Rhodes College ahead for the rest of the contest en route to an 81-70 win over the LeTourneau University women's basketball team.
The spurt spoiled the career-best game for LETU sophomore
Jada Roberts, who had a career-high 15 points and six rebounds in the loss. She was joined in double digits by junior
Ashley Stephens (14) and sophomore
Bria Goodman and
Kim Wallace (10).
Rhodes (3-1) were led by the double double performance from Symone Daniels, who had a game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Also scoring in double figures were Erin Deery (15), Blaire Smith (13) and Dy'Nelle Thodman (11).
The 9-0 spurt put Rhodes ahead 39-30 with 1:48 to play in the first half before the YellowJackets closed out the first half with five unanswered points for a four-point halftime deficit, 39-35.
The momentum stayed on the LETU side of the ledger to start the second half as the YellowJackets scored five of the first seven points to cut the deficit to one, 41-40 with 18:29 to play.
The Lynx answered the threat with seven-straight points to stretch the margin to eight and a 48-40 lead. Five of the seven came from Bailey Kramer for the Lynx.
LeTourneau would not concede and would work the deficit to two, 50-48, with 14:52 play before a 6-0 run by the Lynx ended the comeback efforts for the visitors. After the run, LETU would get as close as four in the final 13 minutes.
Next, LeTourneau will continue its four-game road stretch to begin its season with a non-conference game at Centenary College on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. in Shreveport.
