A goal in each half and solid all-around team play led the LeTourneau University men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Austin College on Tuesday night.

The YellowJackets (1-0), who saw their season opener on Friday against Centenary postponed due to weather, came out of the gates ready and anxious to take on outside competition. In the 28
th minute, sophomore
Hunter Swift ended a scoreless tie when he took a breakaway and successfully beat the AC defender 1 on 1 with a shot to the lower left for an early 1-0 lead.

The Kangaroos (0-1-1) managed to outshoot LETU, 8-6 in the first 45 minutes, two of the shots were saved by the LETU goalkeeper
Brian Howell and another was blocked by the YellowJackets defense.

Matthew Haesecke. "I am so proud of my team. Our underclassmen showed they are ready to play."
LETU extended its lead to 2-0 early into the second half when sophomore
Jacob Alldredge picked up the corner kick pass from nearly 25 yards out by sophomore
Antonio Fernandez. The Delavan, Wisconsin native sent the shot to the upper left-hand corner of the goal for his first collegiate goal.Â

In the second half, the YellowJackets'
Adam Schultz had an opportunity that was blocked in the 51
st minute by the AC defense; plus a pair of shots by
Mario Lopez sailed wide. In the second 45 minutes, LETU outshot Austin College, 9-4. Howell picked up three more saves en route to his first collegiate shutout.

The YellowJackets continue its homestand to begin the season with a match on Friday, Sept. 5 against Schreiner University at 4 p.m.
