Alejandro Martinez of Texas Lutheran scored in the final seconds of the first overtime to lead visiting Texas Lutheran to a 1-0 win over the LeTourneau University men's soccer team on Saturday.
Most of the match was played in the hot and humid conditions in Longview until a downpour began in the 80
th minute of the match. Despite the conditions, much of the match was played on the offensive side of the visitors from Seguin.
Texas Lutheran (2-1-1) outshot LeTourneau by a 36-7 margin but it was the one shot off the foot off Alejandro Martinez that proved to be the difference. Martinez had six shots to pace the TLU attack.
LeTourneau (1-2) remained in the match on the strength of stingy defensive play and strong play by sophomore goalkeeper
Miguel Cabrera, who registered 16 saves. The 16 saves by Cabrera are the most by a LETU goalie since Ian Todd recorded 18 at Hardin-Simmons on October 2, 2004.
LETU sophomore forward
Adam Schultz led the attack with three shots. He had a pair of opportunities in the first 45 minutes that were blocked by the TLU defense.
Texas Lutheran goalkeeper Jonathan Michael had a save on the seven shots that he faced for his second shutout of the young season.
The YellowJackets are back in action on Friday, Sept. 12 when they host Central Baptist College at the LETU Soccer Complex at 6 p.m.Â
