A 13-2 run midway through the second half propelled visiting East Texas Baptist to a 74-72 win over the LeTourneau University women's basketball team on Tuesday night.

The Tigers (8-8, 4-7 ASC) went ahead by four when Amber Carver and April Leonard each made a pair of free throws, late in the second half to put the visitors ahead by four and for the rest of the contest. Carver had a double double (17 points and 14 rebounds) and teammate Amanda Rucker added 17 in the win. Carver led an ETBU front court that outscored LeTourneau, 40-22 in the win.

The YellowJackets (4-12, 2-9 ASC) were led by the 20 point effort from sophomore
Ashley Reed. The Cedar Hill native made three free throws with seven seconds to play, cutting the deficit to 74-72. On the ensuing possession, LeTourneau took advantage of a pair of free throw misses by the Tigers to set up for the last second shot when
Te'Andra Richardson pulled down her 12
th rebound of the contest. After a LETU timeout, the YellowJackets called for a last-second 3 pointer attempt by
Rebecca Stewart that rimmed out. Stewart finished the game with 11 points and a team-high 13 rebounds for her second double double of the season. The third YellowJacket in double digits was sophomore
Bria Goodman.

Goodman a pair of free throws that put the YellowJackets ahead 65-58 with 6:59 to play before a 9-0 spurt by the visitors ahead with 3:21 to go. Two more free throws by Goodman tied the contest at 67 with 2:58 to play, then the 4-0 spurt was just enough to put ETBU ahead for the rest of the contest. The YellowJackets led for 21:23 in the contest compared to 14:30 for the visiting Tigers, plus the game was tied eight times for 3:47.

LeTourneau scored 11 of the final 16 points in the first half to cut the East Texas Bapstist lead to 42-38 at the halftime break. A jumper by junior
Ashley Stephens and a 3 pointer by Reed put LeTourneau ahead 43-42 with 18:35 left in the contest. Later in the half, another 3 pointer by Reed tied the game for the fourth time that sparked a 9-0 run by the YellowJackets which put host LeTourneau ahead 52-46 with 15:17 to play. ETBU came right back with six-unanswered points to tie the game for a fifth time at 52.

Despite the loss, LeTourneau held East Texas Baptist to 39.1% (25-for-64) shooting from the field and a 27.8% effort from the 3-point line. Plus, the YellowJackets outrebounded East Texas Baptist, 47-45.

LeTourneau will be on the road for its next three games, starting with a trip to Pineville, Louisiana to face Louisiana College on Saturday, Jan. 24 in the inaugural game at the renovated H.O. West Fieldhouse at 1 p.m.
