Energy and enthusiasm filled the air as the LeTourneau University volleyball team posted a 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-14 win over Dallas Christian College on Senior Night.
LeTourneau (9-17) hit .196 in the four-set win over the Crusaders with junior
Dolores Kroese (10 kills and 15 digs) and sophomore
Nicole Mosley (25 assists and 10 digs) each having a double double in the win. It was the ninth double double of the season for Kroese and the eighth for Mosley.
Dallas Christian was led by Destinee' Branch and Na'Qwavian Nelson, who had 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
"It was a very emotional night," said LETU head coach
Scott Peluso. "The team really wanted to make our seniors last home match something special and they really came through."
The night honored and recognized four seniors –
Caitlin Bright,
Alli Bordelon,
Haley Holthouser and
Kayla Ronda – who each played a significant role in the win. Bright, who moved to a student assistant role for her senior season, worked with head coach
Scott Peluso on devising a successful match strategy in the win. Bordelon set the LETU single-season mark for digs with a 24-dig effort on the night to eclipse the previous mark of 446 which was held by Jessica Zabonjik in 2010. For the season, the Port Neches native has 456 digs with five matches to play. Holthouser took advantage of the start to record a season-high eight kills and a block assist; plus Ronda had 21 digs, eight kills, two block assists and an ace in her final home match.
"I am so proud of Alli, Haley and Kayla. They have contributed more to this program, then I could imagine. All three of them played amazing tonight. They have left a legacy on this program and I am honored to have the privilege to coach these amazing young ladies," added Peluso.
The YellowJackets will close out ASC play at UT Dallas on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Richardson; then, they will wrap up the season with a trip to the Centenary Tournament to end the season.
