YellowJackets Lose to ETBU and Defeat Centenary in Volleyball

The LeTourneau University volleyball team split in its two matches – losing to East Texas Baptist, 25-16, 25-14, 25-18 and defeating Centenary, 25-21, 24-26, 25-16, 25-13 – on Saturday.
 
The YellowJackets (5-13) started the day with the loss to a hot-hitting ETBU squad that hit .404 in the win. To complement the hot hitting, the Tigers' had five service aces and 10 block assists in the win. Mallory Sanders had 15 kills and eight digs to lead ETBU. Reighanna Guzman added 20 assists; plus Rebecca Green added four kills and four block assists.
 
LeTourneau junior Dolores Kroese had 11 kills to lead a LETU squad that hit .135 in the defeat. Setters Nicole Mosley and Korissa White had 14 and 10 assists, respectively. Alli Bordelon (pictured in the center) had a team-high 10 digs and A.J. Campbell added four kills and three blocks in the loss.

In the nightcap, LETU had a balanced and potent attack in the win with Kroese recording her fifth double double of the season with 11 kills and 12 digs. Campbell nearly had a double double with nine kills and eight blocks – three solo and five assists. White and Mosley had 18 and 16 assists, respectively for the YellowJackets; plus senior Kayla Ronda added six kills and four block assists and sophomore Savanna Stutts had six kills and a pair of block assists.

"We passed really well in serve and receive; plus, we were fortunate to hit the ball where they weren't," said Bordelon. The Port Neches, Texas native was exceptional in her role of leading the back row for the YellowJackets with 21 digs in the win.
 
LeTourneau had 10 service aces – including three from Bordelon – in the win.  The 10 aces are the most by a LETU squad since a 15-ace effort against Hardin-Simmons, last year on Sept. 19. Plus, LeTourneau had 11 blocks in the victory for its most since a 14-block effort against Mississippi College on Sept. 28, 2013.
 
The YellowJackets will be on the road for its next six matches starting with a trip to Jackson, Mississippi on Oct. 9 to face Belhaven at 7 p.m. and Millsaps on Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. in a pair of non-conference contests.
