The LeTourneau University women's basketball team dropped an 88-68 decision to No. 24 Trinity on Tuesday afternoon on the first day of the UT Tyler Christmas Classic. It was the second-straight defeat for the YellowJackets to a nationally-ranked opponent.

LeTourneau (6-5) jumped out to a 46-37 halftime lead on the nationally-ranked Tigers, shooting a season-best 51.6% from the field. At the halftime break, junior Crystal Jones had 12 of her team-high 19 points to lead LETU. With a potent offensive start, the LETU defense forced 10 first half turnovers and held Trinity to 37.5% (12-for-32) shooting from the field. Jones has been in double figures in 10 of 11 games for the YellowJackets in 2015-16.

LETU senior Ashley Stephens had her third double double of the season with a 15 point, 12-rebound effort; plus junior LaTanya Drakes scored in double figures with 15 points for the YellowJackets.

Trinity (9-1) rallied from the nine-point halftime deficit to shoot 54.3% (19-for-35) from the field in the final 20 minutes. Plus, they held the YellowJackets to 11 points each in the third and fourth period for the comeback win. Monica Holguin led all scorers with 24 points to lead the Tigers. She was joined in double figures by Anecia Richardson (22 points), Mollie Hughes (14 points) and Elizabeth Balido (13 points).

The YellowJackets will look to snap its two-game losing skid with a matchup against Texas Lutheran at noon on Wednesday in the final day of the UT Tyler Christmas Classic.
