LeTourneau Lands Seven on ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams

LeTourneau University placed seven student-athletes on the American Southwest Conference Winter/Spring Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams. The YellowJackets had players honored in each of the following sports: baseball, softball, women's basketball, men's and women's golf and men's and women's tennis.

Ryan Bertram represented the LeTourneau baseball team. He is a senior Mechanical Engineering major from Friendswood. Courtney Matulis picked up the honor from the LETU softball team. She is a Mathematics Education major from Pittsburg. Bria Goodman was honored on the women's basketball team. Goodman is a sophomore kinesiology major from Missouri City. Will Park earned a spot on the men's golf honor team. Park recently graduated with his degree in engineering technology. Alisa Wilson was named to the women's golf team. Wilson is a sohpomore biology major from Snohomish, Washington. Morgan Weaver was named to the men's tennis team. Weaver is a junior from Jacksonville, who is studying mechanical engineering. Amy Miley was the women's tennis representative. Miley is a sophomore pre-nursing major from Longview.

It is the second straight appearance for Weaver on the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete teams. This is the first Distinguished Scholar-Athlete honor for Bertram, Goodman, Matulis, Miley, Park and WIlson.

The award, in its eighth academic year, recognizes student-athletes who achieve a high level of academic achievement (a 3.20 grade-point average or better) while competing as a starter or important reserve on their team. From that list – limited to one nominee per school in each ASC championship sport – the sports information directors from the 11 ASC member institutions select a Distinguished Scholar-Athlete in each sport.
