Hot Hitting LETU Volleyball Defeats Belhaven in Four

A hot-hitting LeTourneau volleyball squad that hit at a season-high .236 clip defeated Belhaven, 27-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-12 on Saturday afternoon in Longview.

The YellowJackets (3-8) were led by the third double double of the season by junior Dolores Kroese, who had 20 kills and 14 digs in the win. The Twin Falls native hit .314 to spark the attack for LETU. Senior Kayla Ronda nearly had a double double with 14 kills and eight digs in the win. In the balanced attack, sophomore Savanna Stutts and freshman Schuyler Wages each added seven kills. Plus, setters junior Korissa White and sophomore Nicole Mosley had 24 and 23 assists, respectively. Senior libero Alli Bordelon joined Kroese with double-digit digs with a match-high 26. Junior Jenny Olejar was a key presence in the front line with six block assists as the YellowJackets had eight blocks in the win.

The Blazers (6-5) were led by Lauren Whiting, who had a team-high 11 kills in the defeat. Setter Kelly Aholt had 34 assists and a match-high five aces with libero Cassidy Fitzpatrick adding 24 digs in the loss.

The opening set went back and forth with seven tie scores that saw LeTourneau come back from a pair of four-point deficits. With the set tied at 25, back-to-back kills by Wages and Ronda led the YellowJackets to a first set victory. Wages and Kroese teamed up for five kills each to lead LETU.

The second set, much like the first set, went back and forth that included eight tie scores and three more lead changes. Late in the set, the Blazers tied it at 22; however, a kill by Ronda and a block by Stutts and Olejar put the home team ahead 24-22. Then, LETU capitalized on a hitting error by the visitors for a two-set lead. In the set, Kroese was lethal with seven kills and Bordelon played a key role with her six digs for the YellowJackets.

Belhaven took an early 4-0 lead in the third set and eventually a 9-1 lead as they out hit the YellowJackets by a .324 to .205 margin to win the set, 25-19. Six-different players had multiple kills for BU in the set.

LeTourneau came back in the fourth set and after seeing the set tied on three occasions, the YellowJackets went on a 7-0 with five-different players registering a kill. Kroese continued to be potent with six kills and Wages added five more to complete the win en route to an astonishing .448 hitting percentage for LETU; plus, Bordelon added eight digs.
