Colhoff Returns to Lead LETU Men's Basketball to 94-87 Win Over Ozarks

LeTourneau University sophomore Alec Colhoff returned from a four-game hiatus to score a game-high 24 points to lead the YellowJackets to a 94-87 win over host University of the Ozarks on Thursday in Clarksville, Arkansas.

Colhoff came off the bench to make a season-high six 3-pointers in the win for the YellowJackets, who improve to 7-9 overall and 5-3 in the American Southwest Conference. Four other players scored in double figures for LeTourneau including freshman Caleb Loggins, who had his first career double double with 18 points and 12 rebounds as well as senior CJ Edwards (15 points), sophomore Sam Talbert (13 points) and junior Jeff Martin (11 points).

The LETU bench outscored Ozarks, 40-6 on the strength of the efforts by Colhoff and Talbert, who accounted for 37.

Ozarks (5-5, 1-4 ASC) were led by the 33 and 32-point efforts by Josh Berard and Jace Richardson, respectively. Berard had 26 of his 33 in the second half en route to a double double, including a game-high 14 rebounds in the loss.

After the fourth tie of the game and a timeout, senior Zakarius Wells made 1 of 2 free throws and Colhoff hit his sixth 3-pointer put the YellowJackets ahead for the rest of the contest. The Eagles cut the deficit to two on a pair of occasions; however, each time LETU had an answer. A 13-0 run midway through the second half by the YellowJackets stretched the margin to double figures for nearly the rest of the game. Six would be the closest that Ozarks would get in the final minutes.

For LeTourneau, sophomore Sam Talbert was in double figures for second-straight game and in consecutive games for the first time in 2015-16. Also, Wells tied a season-high with seven rebounds for the YellowJackets and three players - freshman Bryson Erby, Edwards and Martin each had four assists to lead LETU.

Next, LeTourneau will travel to Richardson to face UT Dallas on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 3 p.m.
