A hot-shooting East Texas Baptist squad with five in double figures led the host Tigers to a 77-60 win over the LeTourneau University women's basketball team on Thursday night in Marshall. The loss ends a five-game winning streak for LeTourneau.Â
The YellowJackets (12-7, 7-3 ASC East Division) were led by junior
Crystal Jones, who scored a game-high 26 points in the loss. The Fort Worth native has been in double figures in 18 of 19 games and has scored at least 20 points in seven games. Jones was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. It is the third time on the season that Jones has not missed a free throw in a game. LETU junior

The Tigers (13-5, 6-3 ASC East Division) shot at a 50.8% (30-for-59) clip from the field and all five starters were in double figures in the win. April Leonard had 17 to lead ETBU, plus Taylee Alexander and Lauren Lee each added 16. Plus, Malasia Chisholm and Morgan Garrett added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

An early 7-0 run in the first quarter by ETBU put the Tigers ahead 13-7 with 4:46 to play in the opening quarter and for the rest of the contest. ETBU went into the halftime break with a 39-30 lead on LeTourneau after shooting 55.6% (15-for-27) from the field. LeTourneau got as close as three on a pair of occasions in the first 20 minutes.
In the third quarter, the Tigers stretched the advantage to as much as 20 before an 8-3 run to close out the period cut the deficit to 15, 58-43. Later in the fourth quarter, the YellowJackets would trim the lead to nine, 69-60, when Drakes made a lay-up with 2:22 to go. ETBU answered the spurt by the YellowJackets, scoring the last eight points for the win.
