An all-around team effort led the visiting LeTourneau University women's basketball team to a 76-72 win over host Concordia University on Saturday in Austin. The win is the first in program history in Austin and improves the YellowJackets to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in American Southwest Conference play. It is the first time in school history that LETU has gone 5-0 against West Division teams to start the rigors of ASC play.
Four YellowJackets –
Crystal Jones (30 points),
LaTanya Drakes (18 points),
Jeannine Myles (11 points) and
Ashley Stephens (10 points) – scored in double figures to lead LeTourneau. It is the fourth 30-point effort of the season for Jones, who has also been in double figures in 14 of 15 games. Drakes and Stephens each pulled down double figure rebounds with 11 and 10, respectively for a double double effort. The 11 points by Myles are a season-high for the junior from Bossier City, Louisiana. Junior
Jada Roberts added seven points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals in the win.
Concordia (7-6, 0-4 ASC) was led by Mercedes Taylor, who scored a team-high 17 points off the bench. Emily Cullers and Jaela Dejean added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Trailing by eight, 38-26 at halftime, LeTourneau outscored the Tornados, 26-14 in the third period for a 54-51 lead. During the period, the YellowJackets' started the period on a 12-2 run for its first lead, 40-38, since the 5:18 mark of the first period. Plus, Jones scored 12 of her 30 and the YellowJackets' defense forced six turnovers in the third period. The YellowJackets stretched the lead to as much as seven in the period, but a resilient Concordia squad rallied to tie the game on four occasions in the final quarter.
With the game tied at 70 and 1:39 to play, a lay-up by Stephens as well as a steal and lay-up by Roberts put the visitors ahead by four, 74-70 with :15 to go. After Concordia made a pair of free throws with :03 to go, Myles sealed the win with a pair of free throws. In the final period, LeTourneau outscored Concordia, 14-4 in points in the paint and 13-4 in bench points.
LeTourneau will next continue its seven-game road trip with a pair of American Southwest Conference games. First, the YellowJackets will face Ozarks on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in Clarksville, Arkansas.
