LETU Men Fall in Overtime to Ozarks

LeTourneau University men's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision on Friday night to the University of the Ozarks in an overtime ASC East battle.

The YellowJackets (4-3-2, 1-1 ASC) jumped out to a first half lead as Zachariah Malik scored his second goal of the season. Malik found a ball from Justin Rojas and blasted a shot passed the Ozarks keeper from just outside of the 18' box in the 30th minute.

Sophomore David Trost also came off the bench and provided a spark in the first half as he made strong attacking runs and had a one-touch volley that required a diving save from the Eagles' goalkeeper.

The Eagles responded in the 65th minute with a goal of their own to send the game into overtime. LETU made multiple attacks in the extra period but were unable to convert and with just over a minute remaining Ozarks was able to score off of a cross to take the victory.

Sophomore Guillermo Torres, out of Longview High School, was crucial in controlling the midfield for the YellowJackets and set up many opportunities for his teammates in the attacking third of the field.

The YellowJackets outshot the Eagles 23 to 17 putting 11 shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Brian Howell made five saves in the match while Hunter Swift was once again an anchor on the defensive backline as the senior won the ball out of the air and made multiple crucial clearances.

LeTourneau will be back in action Saturday night at 7:30 as they take on the Patriots of UT Tyler in another ASC East showdown.
