The YellowJackets played energized but fell in three straight sets to the Tigers in front of a raucous crowd in Ornelas Gym on Tuesday night.
LeTourneau is celebrating Spirit Week and there was a large LETU Blue Crew contingent out in support of their volleyball squad.Â
The energy from the crowd helped the YellowJackets defense at the net as they finished with eight blocks in the match.
Jenny Olejar led LeTourneau with five blocks with
Savanna Stutts adding three.
It was a tightly contested first set with runs made by both teams including a late set push by LETU that would draw a Tiger timeout at 20-22. ETBU would go on to close the set 21-25.
In the second set LeTourneau fell behind 9-15 but the YellowJackets kept battling as they came out of a timeout and scored four straight points to cut the lead to 22-18. But two late set service errors would cost the LETU the second set.
In the third set the Tigers would jump out to a 5-1 lead before the blocks would come out again for LeTourneau. The YellowJackets would tie things up at 11-11 before ETBU went on a 5-0 run to push the lead back to five. LeTourneau just couldn't convert digs into points down the stretch as the Tigers were able to close out the set and take the match 3-0.
Senior
Korissa White finished with eight assists and six digs for the YellowJackets.
Dolores Henson and
Skylar Horan had five kills each to go along with four kills from freshman
Mikayla Thomas.
LeTourneau volleyball will be back in action on Friday at the second ASC crossover weekend hosted by UT Dallas in Richardson, Texas.
