Baseball: Louisiana College Defeats LeTourneau, 10-8

A ten-run third inning by visiting Louisiana College erased an early 6-0 deficit to defeat LeTourneau University in baseball on Friday night at Conrad-Vernon Field.

The YellowJackets (6-13, 3-7 ASC) built the early lead with a five-run first and an additional run in the second. LeTourneau brought in three in the first inning with the bases loaded when junior Jacob Simmons (pictured) emptied the bases with a double.

The Wildcats (5-16, 3-7 ASC) sent 14 batters to the plate in the third inning. In the inning, Louisiana College scored ten times on nine hits including a three-RBI double by Logan Krajcer; plus, Logan Phillips had a RBI single and two-RBI single to lead the Wildcats.

Clinging to a four-run lead, LeTourneau cut into the lead in the fourth inning. With two outs, senior Taylor Empkey doubled for his third hit of the night. Then, junior Kyle Jacobs picked up his second of three hits, scoring Empkey from second to trim the deficit to three. Next, senior Brandon Applewhite hit a double to the gap in left-center field, scoring Jacobs to make it a two-run contest.

The win snaps an eight-game losing streak for the Wildcats. For LeTourneau, Empkey and Jacobs each had three hits, Applewhite, Simmons and senior Dylan Wadyko added two apiece to lead a 14-hit attack for the YellowJackets, who had double-digit hits for the seventh time on the season. LETU senior Boone Privette in relief, pitching 6.2 innings of scoreless relief and struck out ten. It is the first time in five games that when the YellowJackets had scored seven or more run that they were on the losing side of the ledger.

The series is still up for grabs and will be decided in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Conrad-Vernon Field.
