LeTourneau University men's soccer went the full 110 minutes against Rhodes College on Friday afternoon as the two teams tied 2-2 in Longview.
The YellowJackets (3-2-2, 0-0 ASC) earned a penalty shot only three minutes into the game after a foul in the box by the Lynx.
Junior
Israel Madrid placed the ball in the right side of the net as the goalkeeper dove left and gave LeTourneau the early 1-0 lead. Rhodes responded just six minutes later with a goal of their own that tied up the game. The score remained 1-1 at the half.
The Lynx put the pressure on early, earning a corner kick that was put home just two minutes into the half. Despite giving up the goal the YellowJackets defense was anchored by senior
Hunter Swift who coach Haesecke said helped keep LETU within reach making some huge plays on the back line.
In the late minutes of the game with just over seven minutes remaining the YellowJacket attack had the ball inside the box and a shot towards goal was stopped by the arm of a Lynx defender earning another penalty shot for LeTourneau.
Israel Madrid stepped calmly to the penalty spot again and this time went left to beat the keeper and tie the game at two goals apiece.
The YellowJackets would go to overtime for the third time this season. The extra 20 minutes were not enough to separate the two squads as the game ended in the second tie of the season for LETU. Junior goalkeeper
Brian Howell made six saves in the game.
LeTourneau men's soccer will kick off the conference season next Saturday, September 24
th in a home matchup against ETBU.
