A great crowd showed up to watch an exciting game in Longview on Saturday night as the LeTourneau University men's soccer team defeated East Texas Baptist University in the first ASC matchup of the season with 1-0 victory.
Guillermo Torres scored the first goal of his YellowJacket career in the eighth minute of the game off an assist from
Justin Rojas. The early goal proved to be the game winner for LETU who improved to 4-2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the ASC.
Despite the Tigers outshooting the YellowJackets, LeTourneau played 90 minutes of scoreless soccer with junior goalkeeper
Brian Howell recording his fourth shutout of the season and the fifth of his career.
Senior
Hunter Swift led the backline along with
Alec Wier,
Kieran Coull and
Jacob Malik that helped keep the clean sheet. The YellowJackets defense played held tough winning one-on-one matchups and clearing the attacking runs made by ETBU late in the game.
LeTourneau will return to the home pitch on Friday, September 30
th for another ASC East matchup with Ozarks at 7:30 PM.
