YellowJacket Volleyball Wins in Exciting Five Set Match Over Centenary (La.)

As a part of Police Officer Appreciation Night the LeTourneau University volleyball team honored and recognized local police officers along with several family members of LETU volleyball players who serve or have served on the police force. The officers enjoyed a meal before the game and were introduced prior to the game and also had some fun playing in the serving challenge between sets.

The YellowJackets (6-9, 0-1 ASC) went to five sets with the visiting Ladies of Centenary College (La.) and were able to complete the comeback winning 3-2.

The YellowJackets had five blocks in the first set but couldn't put down consecutive points to finish the extended game that went to 28-30 in favor of the Ladies.

In the second set the YellowJackets had a handful of receiving errors that helped Centenary jump out to a big lead. But LETU stormed back and were only down one before a timeout at 16-17. The Ladies would end up taking set two 21-25.

The YellowJackets were energized after the break and won the third set 25-19 with big kills coming from Dolores Henson and Savanna Stutts.

In the fourth set the YellowJackets were hitting on all cylinders as they jumped out to an early lead and kept the momentum going taking the set 25-16 and sending the match a fifth set.

The fifth and deciding set had the Blue Crew up on their feet as they YellowJackets needed some help after a quick start by Centenary. But five straight points from senior Jenny Olejar turned the tide and sent the YellowJackets on to a 15-10 final set and win number six for the season.

Leading the YellowJackets tonight were sophomore Liz Williams who recorded 21 digs in the match while Dolores Henson did a little bit of everything putting down 11 kills and adding 19 digs and 3 blocks defensively.

Morgan Weaver was involved in 8 of the YellowJackets 15 blocks which really set the tone at the net. Junior Savanna Stutts and sophomore Ashlyn Johnson were key players off the bench that brought energy in the YellowJackets comeback win. Stutts had 11 kills to go along with Johnson's nine kills. Senior Korissa White and junior Nicole Mosley each had 19 assists as they set up the YellowJacket hitters.

LeTourneau will jump back into ASC play this weekend in an East/West crossover hosted by Concordia University in Austin, Texas. LETU will play Sul Ross on Friday at 2:30 PM and then two matches on Saturday against McMurry at 10 AM and host Concordia at 3 PM.
