LETU Volleyball Finishes Weekend at Austin College Classic

LeTourneau University volleyball finished the Austin College Classic with a .500 record after a split on Saturday afternoon.

The YellowJackets rebounded from dropping the first set, winning three straight on the way to a 3-1 victory (25-19, 16-25, 13-25, 21-25) over Centenary College (Louisiana).

The YellowJackets (3-3, 0-0 ASC) had eight blocks in the match as senior Jenny Olejar and sophomore Morgan Weaver recorded four apiece. Nicole Mosley and senior Korissa White tallied 14 and 12 assists respectively. Kelsie Jeffries once again led the YellowJackets in digs with 15.

The last match of the classic was against the host team Austin College. Junior Nicole Mosley was big in the match collecting 19 assists and setting up seniors Skylar Horan (12) and Jenny Olejar (7) along with junior Savanna Stutts (6) who paced the YellowJackets in kills. Dolores Henson and Kelsie Jeffries were the anchors on the defense.

Each of the sets were closely contested but in the end the 'Roos were able to take three straight sets and the match (23-25, 20-25, 22-25).

"We had another successful day," said head coach Scott Peluso. "We are playing well as a team. Even the sets we did not win were very close and competitive. We had solid contributions from everyone especially our seniors Dolores, Skylar and Jenny. Our defense is as good as it's been in my time at LeTourneau. Now we just need to find a couple more points on offense and in transition and some of the close sets will go our way. Over all it was a great weekend and the team is looking forward to practice next week to get ready for the Rhodes tournament."

Senior Skylar Horan was named to the All-Tournament team (selected by coaches).
After a 2015 season that was plagued by injury, Horan has opened up her senior year with a team leading 44 kills and 20 blocks on the weekend.

The YellowJackets will make the road trip to Memphis, Tennessee next weekend for Friday and Saturday double headers at Rhodes College.
