The YellowJackets (7-8, 5-3 ASC) didn't have enough to overcome a sharp shooting UMHB squad as they fall 70-89 to the Crusaders on Saturday afternoon at Solheim Arena.
Mary Hardin-Baylor shot 53.1 percent (34-64) from the floor and 45.8 percent (11-24) from behind the arc.
Crystal Jones led the YellowJackets with 21 points to go along with her six rebounds. The senior guard is leading the American Southwest Conference in scoring at 20.5 points per contest.
LaTanya Drakes poured in 18 points to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. Drakes leads the ASC in rebounding at 12.8 boards per game.
Joining in on the scoring were
Jaila Leaven who was perfect from three-point range and finishing with six points.
Jada Roberts added four points to go along with eight assists.
LeTourneau shot just 38.1 percent (24-63) from the floor and 27.3 percent (6-22) from three-point range in the loss. UMHB outrebounded the YellowJackets 38-33.
LETU jumped out to an early 21-7 lead thanks to steals and fast break layups by
Crystal Jones and
Bria Goodman. But, the Crusaders would respond with a run of their own cutting the lead to three by the end of the first quarter.
UMHB took their first lead of the game on a Kendall Rollins free throw at the 9:05 mark of the second quarter. The Crusaders expanded their lead to 13 going into the break.
Mary Hardin-Baylor led by as many as 25 late in the second half but the YellowJackets scored six unanswered points to end the game including free throws from
Madison Kritsch and
Sha'Donnaver Young.
LeTourneau will continue their home stand next week as University of Ozarks and UT Dallas make the trip to Longview for ASC battles. The YellowJackets will take on the Eagles of Ozarks on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and host the Comets on Saturday afternoon with tipoff set for 1:00 p.m.
