LETU falls to rival East Texas Baptist Tigers 2-5 in the series opener Friday night. ETBU ran the plate by outhitting the YellowJackets 6-10.

Noah Mahoney made quick work in the bottom of the fourth when they hit back-to-back singles to put runners in scoring position. Sophomore
Ryan Conger took advantage of the situation when he collected a RBI and a base off an ETBU error to cut the lead to 1-2.

The Tigers responded by tallying two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 1-4 before the Jackets answered in the bottom of the sixth. Sosa reached on a third-strike passed ball and was later brought home on a fielder's choice from senior
Jacob Simmons. It was the last run brought in by LETU on the night.

Sosa, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, led the offense. Sophomore
Jacob Faubion also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. The YellowJackets left 10 stranded, as they weren't able to convert with runners in scoring position.

Jordan Carns falls to 0-3 on the season despite four strikeouts. The senior right-hander gave up five runs on nine hits during his seven-inning outing.

LETU will finish out their rival series with ETBU on Saturday, February 25. The Jackets will start the day with a 7-inning contest at 1 p.m. followed by a 9-inning series closer at Conrad-Vernon Field.
