YellowJackets Drop Conference Opening Series

LeTourneau finished off their three-game series with rival East Texas Baptist on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers took the two contests, 6-1 and 8-6 as LETU stranded 21 runners on base in the two games.

In the first outing, the YellowJackets were able to put runners into scoring position but failed to convert them into runs. After four scoreless innings, the first run was put on the board as the Tigers brought two home off a crucial error.

LeTourneau cut the lead to one in the bottom of the sixth when a catcher's interference brought a run across and recorded an RBI for sophomore Lee Hosie. However, the Jackets could not stop the Tiger's hot hitting in the seventh inning when they extended the lead to 6-1.

Andrew Harlan falls to 0-2 on the season despite his six strikeouts. The sophomore pitcher allowed six runs on seven innings in his seven-inning effort.

In the series finale, the YellowJackets came out with hot bats in the first inning jumping out to a 5-1 lead.

Back to back singles from senior Kyle Jacobs and junior Gonzalo Sosa got the Jackets rolling. A sacrifice bunt from sophomore Noah Mahoney moved the runners over for a RBI single from sophomore Ryan Conger. Jacob Faubion contributed to the inning when he hit a double to left field. The sophomore infielder recorded two RBIs with his double and was later brought home by freshman Mason Drake. Drake doubled to left field, picking up two RBIs and giving the Jackets the four run lead.

LeTourneau was unable to keep the momentum going as they left 12 on base in the game. The Tigers regained the lead in the sixth and seven innings when they scored five runs to bring the score to 8-5.

A ninth inning comeback looked promising as the Jackets brought one run home and loaded the bases but the rally fell short as ETBU captured the 8-6 win.

Freshman Haden Simmons drops to 1-1 on the mound after allowing three runs on three hits in his four-inning outing.

LETU's Conger and Hosie led the offense in the finale going 3-for-5 and 2-for-3, respectively. Conger recorded three singles with two runs and one RBI. Drake contributed to the Jacket's bats with his RBI double, which brought two across the plate.

The Jackets (3-6, 0-3 ASC) will take a break from conference play and travel to Sherman, Texas to face the Austin College Roos. The three-game series will kick off on Friday, March 3rd at 6 p.m.
