LETU Picks Up ASC Win at Belhaven

JACKSON, Miss. -- LeTourneau's volleyball team got back in the win column Friday, capturing its first American Southwest Conference victory. The YellowJackets beat Belhaven, 25-11, 25-18, 27-29, 25-20.

LeTourneau improved to 5-5 overall, 1-1 in the ASC. Belhaven fell to 4-6, 0-1.

LETU had 46 kills and 28 errors in 154 swings. Belhaven had 42 kills and 26 errors in 155 attacks. The YellowJackets had 12 kills in the second and fourth sets, and 16 in the third. The Blazers had 15 kills in the third, 10 in the second and 11 in the fourth.

After grabbing a two-set lead in the match, LeTourneau fell behind 9-3 in the third set, but went on a 4-0 run to cut the gap to 10-9 on a kill by Taylor Smith. Belhaven bumped its lead out to four, but LETU cut it to one again on a kill by Kianna Crow. A kill by Faith Stone put the Blazers up 20-17, but the Jackets used a 3-0 run, touched off by a Mikayla Thomas putaway to tie it at 20-20. The YellowJackets took a 23-22 lead on a Belhaven setting error. After swapping points over the next four serves, the Blazers secured the next two points to go up, 26-25. A Blazers attack error tied it at 26 before the two teams traded points over the next two serves. But the Blazers picked up the last two points to cut the match score to 2-1.

The second and third sets were highlighted by 19 ties and 19 lead changes.

In the fourth set, Smith gave LeTourneau a 13-5 lead with a kill. The Blazers ran off three straight points to draw within five before LETU went on a 5-0 run to push the lead out to 10. Following a kill by Crow, Belhaven cut the deficit to 22-16. The YellowJackets pushed it to match point following a pair of Blazers errors, but Bellhaven responded by running off four straight points to cut it to 24-20. Smith banged down a ball on the next serve, however, to put the match away.

Crow had 15 kills, six aces and 13 digs. Thomas had nine kills and two blocks. Smith had eight kills and 19 digs. Lexie Welton had seven kills. Cam Taylor had 26 digs and four aces. Natalie Davenport had 34 assists. Belhaven's Callista Moore had 12 kills and 14 digs, and Stone finished with nine kills.

The YellowJackets had a season-high 12 aces.
