LONGVIEW -- LeTourneau University men's soccer team made a second half comeback, but the YellowJackets' effort fell short in a 4-2 loss to Birmingham-Southern Friday night.
LETU scored two second half goals, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 4-0 halftime deficit.
The Panthers (2-2-1) picked up a pair of goals from Coleman Jennings to take a 3-0 lead in the 36th minute. Rafael Millan-Lopez assisted on both goals. Max Sager added another goal on an assist from Adrian Castro to give Birmingham-Southern its four-goal lead in the 40th minute.
BSC outshot LETU, 16-3 in the first half.
LeTourneau responded in the second half when
Luis De La Torre scored a setup from
Russell Gray in the 47th minute. Five minutes later,
Oscar Cravatio cut the deficit in half on a setup from
Oliver Placencia. De La Torre had three of LETU's five shots on goal. The Panthers cracked seven shots on goal.
But despite outshooting the Panthers in the second half, 9-4, the YellowJackets (1-2-2) could not find the back of the net again.
LETU goalkeeper
Diego Berlingeri stopped three shots. Birmingham-Southern keeper Kurt Murre stopped three shots.
A combined 30 fouls and four yellow cards were issued, with each team picking up 15 fouls and two yellows. The YellowJackets attempted six corner kicks to the Panthers' five.
LeTourneau will host Sewanee at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Senior Day. The YellowJackets will honor
