'Jackets sting Eagles 3-1

LONGVIEW, TexasNoah Garcia struck twice in LeTourneau's 3-1 win over the Ozarks Saturday at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.

With the victory, the Yellowjackets evened their overall record at 7-7 and gaining ground in the American Southwest Conference table at 3-4, tied with Belhaven for fourth, with three fixtures left. The Eagles fell to 6-6-1, including 3-4-1 in league action. The top eight teams make it to the conference tournament.

"Tonight, the guys put in a complete performance," head coach Collin Cone said. "We were solid in all areas tonight, attacking and defending with a purpose."

Letourneau carried the pace of play in the early minutes of the second half, earning a corner kick in the 53rd minute. After pinballing off multiple players in the goal box, Santi De La Torre slid the ball over to Garcia, who tickled the twine and breaking the 1-1 deadlock.

Less than two minutes later, the Yellowjackets offensive pressure paid off with another corner kick. Left unmarked, Garcia buried Keaton Johnson's beautifully placed ball into the box, extending the advantage to 3-1.

On the defensive end, freshman Jack Carpenter kept his team in the contest, making two quality saves.

Russell Gray started the night just five minutes in when he settled a corner from Chino Rojas, before beating the keeper for the 1-0 lead.

Jackson Rogers finished off a 2 v 1 to get a clean shot at the net, evening things at 1-1 in the 15th minutes.  Tapiwa Manhungo was credited with the helper.
