Hunter scores first-career goal in loss

ALPINE, Texas – Fighting for a spot in the American Southwest Conference tournament, LETU men's soccer could ill-afford another setback, especially in the wainingwaning moments but that's what happedhappened against Sul Ross State at Lobo Field Friday.

With 15 minutes left in regulation, the LobosLobos' Pablo Herrera beat the goalkeeper, registering the eventual match winner and breaking a 1-1 deadlock. Xavier Russell assisted on the play.
The Yellowjackets slipped below .500 at 7-8-0 overall, including 3-5-0 against league foes, dropping into a tie for sixth on the table with Belhaven.

East Texas Baptist lurks just a half game back at 2-5-1, clinging to the eighth and final playoff spot. Sul Ross State improved to 4-7-0, 1-6-0, two and a half back of LETU, while McMurry is two behind, sandwiched between ETBU and SRSU.

Chino Rojas pass in the 39th minute found Christian Hunter, who notched his first goal as a Yellowjacket.

Luis Gonzalez squared things at one-goal apiece, with an unassisted marker with four minutes left in the opening frame.

Neither side generated much offense after Herrera's marker. Each side added a shot that was off the mark and LETU failed to cash in on two corner kicks.

One last road test in 2021 awaits the 'Jackets, a 1 p.m. fixture in Brownwood, Texas against Howard Payne.

- Sul Ross held a 12-7 advantage in shots, including 5-2 on goal. LETU held an 8-2 edge in corners.
