Enrique Salazar's goal in the 10
th minute and
Jack Carpenter's second career shutout fueled LETU's 1-0 victory over ETBU in the I-80 Derby at the Joyce Family Athletics Village Friday.
The Yellowjackets finished the regular season with a winning percentage over .500 at 9-8, including 5-5 in American Southwest Conference action. The Tigers dropped to 4-11-2, 3-6-1.
In front of the largest and boisterous home crowd of the season, the two sides provided all the entertainment, physicality and emotion fans want in a contest between rivals.
LETU carried the bulk of the play, outshooting ETBU 22-11, including 7-5 on target. The teams compiled 25 fouls with three in the yellow card variety.
Salazar's second goal of the season was a blistering shot from the near side, from 15-yards out, crossing the mouth of the goal and beating a diving keeper inside the far post.
In just his seventh career start, Carpenter corralled all five attempts on target, recording his second-career shutout. The Colorado Springs, Colorado, native improved to 4-3 and lowered his goal-against-average to just over one goal a contest.

The Yellowjackets earned the sixth seed in the 2021 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament. They travel to Richardson, Texas for a quarterfinal fixture against UT Dallas at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
