LONGVIEW, Texas – The LETU women's volleyball team registered a critical 3-1 victory over Sul Ross State at Soleheim Arean Friday.
With the 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-18 triumph, the Yellowjackets improved to 15-9 this season, including 10-7 in league play. Sul Ross dropped to 14-9, 10-7. Heading into the final day on the regular season schedule, LETU, SRSU and ETBU are even and tied for third place. Concordia Texas holds the sixth and final spot in next week's conference tournament after dropping their season finale in four sets against UMHB Friday.
LETU jumped out to a large early lead before allowing Sul Ross back into the match, suffering a setback. Instead of letting the loss deflate them, the Yellowjackets offense turned up the pressure, hitting .341, .313 and .256 over the following sets.
Kianna Crow,
Hannah Payan and
Allison Smith paced the offense with 18, 11 and 10 kills, respectively. The trio accounted for 42 of the team's 96 points.
Courtney Edge led the squad with 35 digs, while
Natalie Davenport issued 31 assists and
Samantha Winkel chipped in with 20.
